The new extended trailer for the highly-anticipated final film in the Batman franchise, The Dark Knight Rises, has done little to dispel fan's fears that the hero will perish at the trilogy's close.

The new two-minute long preview portrays an intensely gloomy and dire setting, as Bruce Wayne's nemesis Bane reigns.

Anne Hathaway as Catwoman appears to provide the one-liners in the movie, as villainous Bane wreaks havoc and despair.
Bane, fans will know, is the only nemesis that has toppled Batman in the story's past - breaking his back in one of the comics.
'I am Gotham's reckoning,' the villain announces.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman also make appearances in the trailer.
Gordon-Levitt, playing John Blake, discusses the possibility that Bane has killed Batman, at one point.
The longstanding rumour has been that Bruce Wayne will perish in this final installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins franchise.
Micahel Caine adds: 'I won't bury you. I've buried enough members of the Wayne family.'

Catwoman, or Selina Kyle, appears to try to convince Batman to give up the fight for Gotham. 'You don’t owe these people any more,' she pleads. 'You’ve given them everything.'
The Dark Knight Rises has cost $250million to make, but will not be shown in 3D, only IMAX cinemas.
The film opens in cinemas in the UK and US on July 20.
